Power has been cut in the centre for three days up to now. The best place to go during the time of austerity is either, into the field, or Boda Boda bar. One of the most attractive features of the bar, apart from its attentively and naturally decorated environment which creates an native African style with Western novelty, the wireless internet covers the majority of the places within and is free of charge. Get a soda for yourself and then sit there for the whole afternoon, enjoying the sometime slow, but all the time, free internet! Since the power has been cut for long in the centre, I became their frequent customer this week. I went there when I desperately needed internet excess. Of course, it was usually the case for me to try for an hour before the internet picked up its speed. For reasons which are still unknown to me, the manager of the bar offered me a complimentary lunch for tomorrow. I did not promise to come and could not tell her that I only came due to the lack of internet.
Anyway, the main topic of this post is to introduce you all about the bar which has a restaurant and a lounge as well. If anyone of you visit here, I would suggest us to hang out there! Check out its new website which I just discovered today in the bar.

Landon, how does the transport system work in Kampala ? You always take taxi to places like Garden city ? / Lasse
ReplyDeleteTaxi? We don't have taxis here if you mean a private and air-conditioned one which stops whenever you wave your hand. We have 'Matatu' here: a medium-size, second-hand, Japanese-made Toyota couch which usually holds 16 people at the same time which was 2 people over standard limit! It is slow and sometimes humid, and always hot. Coinciding with the usual traffic jam on the road, hey, man, you'll understand why we call it a 'kitchen'. For Garden City is a different case, Matatus don't go pass there, so the best option is to take a Boda Boda-a motorcycle-which can take around, if you firmly insist, 4-6 people at the same time. It is the fastest way of moving around the city, but of course, the cost is relatively higher as well. The concern is they don't provide you with a helmet, which they sometimes have for themselves and Boda Boda men all tend to ride very fast, regardless of their capability. Well, in a word, no transportation is completely safe here, the faster you want to travel, the more danger you are putting on yourself. Just in case you will encounter problems traveling to Garden City:Coming from Kazo costs maximum Sh3000, going back maximum Sh3500. If Boda Boda Men refuse to take you for that price, my advice is to wait! Last time I waited for an hour to save Sh500. Well, crazy I know, but it was not about money, but PERSONAL PRIDE!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting information :) Ty / Lasse
