When words failed to express themselves, an occasion which happens so often in my life, I chose to use music. Writing music is my way of keeping a diary-Secrets are diluted into notes, rather than unarguable words. Click on the links below to download the pieces.
One Saturday Morning
(4 September 2010)
I played freely on the keyboard this morning(how much I hoped it was on a piano). It was an one-off performance. I had to listen to it several times after it was recorded to figure out its meaning. Please don't take the noise in the background as the drumming, it was someone digging the road outside the centre! There were also lots of kids in the centre at that time who contributed to the extra sound in the piece. At the moment, I call the piece 'One Saturday Morning', please feel free to tell me if you have better names!
A Moment in Life
(7 September 2010)
A moment when life is no longer weighted by its value but its lightness. As soon as the moment is embraced without its societal meaning, the existence of sound becomes strangely beautiful. The soul is then discovered in light.
Staying with You in A Crowd of Stars
(10 September 2010)
'Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled. And paced upon the mountains overhead. And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.' - William Butler Yeats
One Hundred Years of Solitude
(2 October 2010)
Dedicated to my beloved sister, Elina Chen (well, we are not siblings but are good enough to be siblings), who is now studying in the US for her university. We have not met for more than a year already. The piece was inspired by Marquez's novel, which bears the same name, One Hundred Years of Solitude. I devoured the novel in three days and had it finished the day before yesterday. The accordion used in the piece has special weight in my heart as well as in the novel. I hope we would meet at the same place where the music and the novel originated.
